I get hits from recruiters all the time. The first thing I ask is if the position is non-exempt. Occasionally they will lie and say it is. In the initial interview i verify the status of the position. I will bow out if it is exempt. The calls from the recruiter afterwards are pure gold. “But it's a great opportunity.”
If I get an email on the weekend I will complete the task and charge overtime and then a bit more. I get questioned sometimes on why I didn't wait until Monday, my reply is that they didn't. If you want me to have company email on my phone expect me to read it and respond. I increased my salary by 50% last year with OT.
Do you know you can usually take a vacation day without actually getting one subtracted. You just let everyone know you are taking a vacation day and never submit for approval.
Mid year last year and 6 months into my job I strong armed a 50% raise in salary. I have no real job loyalty. If I get offered more somewhere else I will take it. I am good enough at what I do that my current employer met the salary I was leaving for. They even made it retroactive by a month.
I have lots of ways I get mine back. Some of them not so above board. The funny thing is by giving up a pure salaried position, my job got easier and I get paid more and have more freedom.
