Today was yet another reminder that corporations just see employees as a number. I work from home but my husband is required to go into the office 3x a week. So we moved to a new place down the street from his office so that his commute wouldn't be hectic (Maybe he could bike to work for exercise during the summer?).
Two months after we move in, they change the office he needs to go into, for one 30 min further. Then tell us today that they're moving him again to another office 30 min further than that one. It's ridiculous because:
- His job can be completely done remotely and he's gotten great performance reviews due to the fact that he consistently meets his goals. I think they should trust to him to continue to do his job.
- His team DOESN'T EVEN WORK IN THE SAME STATE so he's driving to the office, just to work virtually with his team who all work in different states than he does. So in no way does this provide some “collaboration benefit”. Plus, the set up he has at home is better than in the office.
I'm mostly just ranting. He likes the job itself and is planning to push back a little to see if they will see reason. Most likely, they'll ignore his requests as they feel that the “company culture” is as many people as possible being in the office, but if they could at least let him work out of a nearby office that would be so much less stressful!
Edit: To clarify, his other teammates work in other offices in different states.
