Hi, i’ve been on this subreddit for a while now and i’ve wanted to talk about how fucking incompetent the company i work for is, especially with a lot of shit i might post later, but anyways i thought i could post this.
Some background info, i work for a company that outsources logistics work for other companies. We have all different locations across the world. Mainly dealing with the automotive industry. Anyways, our specific branch, i guess you’d call it that, does work for a large foreign car company in the U.S. We grab the cars from the plant, drive them next door to our facility, quality check them first to make sure they’re working okay. After this they either get sent out to the rail yard to get loaded onto trains/trucks, or they go over to my department. The side i work on does installs for the cars. We’re split up between two groups: Lights which is what i do, and heavies. Heavies does stuff like if the car requires a trailer hitch to be put on, or a wireless charger. I do smaller stuff like upgraded mirrors, or bumper covers. Once the cars are fully done, they’re then QC’d one last time and then sent out to be shipped. Sorry for this probably boring lore, but i guess this is to better help understand.
Okay with that info dump out of the way, i can finally just talk about my problems. First off we just don’t get paid a decent amount like we should. This year for raises, they basically didn’t even give one to people who weren’t topped out. Like me, i wasn’t topped out so they just bumped people up a step, which sounds nice, but not really because i would have been making that money anyways in about 6 months, so i basically didn’t get a raise. People that were topped out got a whole extra 50 cents. They also announced that they’re gonna move from everyone getting the same raise, to performance based ones, so when that happens i fully expect to be given absolutely nothing because i’m not a perfect employee. Along with the pay, it’s really fucked because after the cars are QC’d, they put the little sticker on the side showing how much the car is worth. On average, a singular car i see leave is worth about $38,000-$42,000. I am topped out now and i only make $20.50, which isn’t horrible no, but the most fucked thing is when you do the math. If i work a normal work week for the year, i’d make $42,640 before taxes. So i wouldn’t even be able to really afford a singular car with my yearly wage. And the worst thing is that during a normal work day i work on about 33-38 cars a day. Again, if you do the math for that and for simplicity sake round the average car cost to 40k that’s fucking $1,320,000-$1,520,000 a DAY. I know i won’t be exactly that every day, but like it’s definitely at least a million dollars of merchandise i work on a day. And on the other side where they do their quality checks after the cars come from the plant, They’re supposed to do 85 cars a night. That’s fucking fucking $3,400,000 a day, supposed to be 40 hours a week, but lately it’s been overtime hell so it’s even more. And we only get paid at max $20.50. If you’re a trainer then you’re only paid $.50 cents more an hour, and leads are $1 more an hour.
Seeing how much these cars cost kills me inside. On top of all of this, the plant has to shutdown in the wintertime, usually around January, for a week or so. Then also the summertime for around 2.5 weeks, give or take some. The plant pays for their workers shutdown. But for us, oh no no no we don’t get ANYTHING. We are supposed to either use our own time to cover for these unpaid work weeks, or just supposed to save up and fend for yourself.
Sorry if this post came off as me being a whiny bitch, but just fuck man, im so exhausted from this and the piss poor management i don’t even have the time to talk about. I’m only 20 and i just can’t believe i gotta do this for at least 40 more years. Knowing that for one days work, i will never ever take home the money they make off of me. It all just makes me sick
