I know a lot of people are going to scoff at this but I need to get it out there.
I work 2nd shift(2:30pm-11pm) at a factory in my hometown which manufactures metal wire. It’s boring, tedious work. It’s ridiculously hot all the time and extremely tiring, both physically and mentally.
I have had plans for my 20th birthday(which falls on a Sunday) for a month. We were supposed to be going shooting, then to a really nice restaurant, and definitely not drinking since I’m not old enough for that. Now, my work is telling me I have to work OT that day. Specifically, of the three sections that we have in our factory, ONLY mine is working.
I understand the business has needs, things need to be done and work needs to be completed, but that being said my manager and supervisors have known about my plans for 2 weeks. We’ve done weekend long overtime before so I SPECIFICALLY asked weeks in advance if we would have overtime and was told three times “No”. So that was a fucking lie.
My work’s time off policy operates on a point system. Everyone gets 6 points. A day off(with call ahead) is one point. Calling off on an Overtime day is 1.5 points. I have 3.5 at the moment due to some personal issues in November and December last year.
This has only reaffirmed my hatred of my job and boss.
