Antiwork

My job makes me feel like a corporate sellout.

I work for a non-profit that specializes in economic development with an emphasis on female entrepreneurship and small business growth. On the surface, this organization is doing great things but there’s something quite sinister underneath: quite a bit of our money comes from massive corporations who have done truly evil things (destroying the environment, fucking over unionized workers, caught up in corruption scandals, etc). We also work with virtually every major bank in North America. To make matters worse, I work on the fundraising aspect of it so I’m working directly alongside these people. How can I call myself an intersectional feminist and a leftist when I’m working alongside the very antithesis of what I stand for? I so badly want to leave this job but I need money and health insurance and I have nothing else lined up. I’m just so done.
