For context: my boyfriend and I work at a local Subway. We recently got new owners, and they expect the closer to do ALL of the closing chores (closing both tills, which takes like 20-30 mins/till, packing and cleaning up bain, which takes half an hour easily, sweeping, mopping, general cleaning, putting away dishes, etc.)
These chores take 20 minutes if the first till is closed ahead of time and 2-3 people help. But “following the new rules” means the closer won't get out until 11-12, when we close at 9 and are all expected to be out of the store by 10.
My boyfriend is one of the closers right now. Due to the new rules, he's going to resign from the closing position after tonight. One of our other new closers might be quitting, leaving us with just 1 who is willing to keep her position. We have 2 employees who are eligible for the position, one of them being me, and the other being a new hire who won't take the job because of her parents.
I am very hesitant to quit this job. Management in our store is relatively good, staff are friendly, we get paid a decent amount for the area, it's not super stressful, and my boyfriend and I need seed money for starting our own business. If I get offered a pay increase of $2-3/hr, I'm probably taking it.
I just needed to vent. But getting opinions from others would help too. What do you think I should do?
