My manager told my coworker I said I wanted to fight him

So I was a courtesy clerk at a grocery store and one of the produce supervisors said there was a mouse in front of the store and that I needed to make it go away. He didn’t directly say to kill it but he said to handle it and then throw it away. He was the kind of guy that treated the other courtesy clerks like shit, but I didn’t tolerate it like they did even though I knew he was part of my managers click. He was hella rude and fake every time I saw him. The way I saw it was that he wasn’t my supervisor and I kept my distance. I’m seriously creeped out by rodents. Part of my job description was pushing carts, cleaning toilets, bagging groceries, etc… but nowhere in my job description did it say kill rodents for the company. I listened to him…

I listened to him talk about how it was important that I make the mouse disappear because the store could get closed down and I would lose my job. I was actually speechless at how much of a dick he was. Even the way he talked was like he was explaining something to someone he found incredibly dumb. Like I was so baffled I couldn’t say anything and he left. I saw the mouse in the front of the store and I scared him away from the store and went on with my shift.

Later I was bagging and he came up to make sure I handled the mouse. I told him that I never agreed to that but that I scared it away from the store. He raised his voice and started repeating no and preceded to yell something along the lines of “why would you do that? do you know what you’ve done? Are you serious? You’re gonna get the store closed. Do you know how stupid that was?” And then he stormed off.

I was fucking livid. He embarrassed me in front of customers and my coworkers. I’m typically a very passive person, but I’d seriously had enough of him. I hadn’t been in a fist fight since I was 16, but he made me want to slam my fist into his face. I continued working for 30 minutes or so but I was still pissed. So even though I knew he was a kiss ass to my manager I went to her office and told my manager about the situation and how he treats the courtesy clerks. I started having an anxiety attack and told her that i am so angry that I want to “beat the fuck out him”. She told me to take my last break and we could talk more when I get back.

Halfway through my break she calls me to her office and surprise, he’s there w/o warning!! The guy I told her I wanted to fight just minutes ago… She said he had a few words he wanted to share with me. He apologized profusely on the verge of fake tears. It was the fakest shit I’ve ever seen in my life. He said everything he knew my manager wanted to hear and it was crystal clear he was the opposite of sorry. My manager babied him and asked me if I could let this go. I said that as long as he keeps his distance from me I would stay professional.

Of course he told all of the other asshole bros in produce that I was a snitch and they all started being assholes to me, but I remained professional and optimistic about it like an idiot. I didn’t want to get on the bad side of my manager. She was responsible for making the schedule as well as front end promotions and she had a rep for cutting your hours if you pissed her off.

A couple months later that coworker got a job as some kind of lead or supervised at Starbucks. I don’t work there anymore, but that manager does. Looking back at it I still feel angry. That company seriously fucked me up.
