I work at a fast food restaurant in the UK. It is awful, but the work itself does not bother me, it's the hours. The shift managers are known for scheduling you whenever they want, regardless of when you say you can work.
My availability keeps getting ignored, as it ends at 11:30 but I keep getting scheduled for shifts until 12pm. I can't work any later as I'm under 18, but once you turn 18 managers can schedule you for a close (which ends at 1am, sometimes 2am) regardless of availability. You can ask them not to put you on close, woth a legitmiate reason, but wait 2/3 months and they will start putting you back on them.
I know my availability is only a half hour difference, but this affects my parents too, so I've tried changing it to 11pm instead, but this has not been reviewed even though it has been 3 months since then. The managers can be incredibly rude and inconsiderate, as can the other workers. I'm not sure who exactly to go to. I've told one of the upper managers about my hours being ignored, who just laughed and said “Get ready for the grind then.”
I was thinking of leaving, and I really want to, but I had told myself that I would do so when I had saved up a specific amount of money. I'm nowhere near that amount yet, and I've not even been there 5 months. I'm conflicted on what to do.
