As a Team Leader / Foreman, I had been working hard to manage my team effectively and meet our targets. However, I found myself in a difficult situation when I needed to take a day off for overburn at work. I approached my manager and requested the day off, but also asked her to not shout or punish the workers who were under my responsibility while I was gone.
Unfortunately, my manager did not respond positively to my request. She started shouting and accusing us of being lazy. She even threatened to punish and fire the workers who were under my supervision. This caused a lot of stress and anxiety among the workers, and two of them went on fake medical leave for two weeks.
To my dismay, four more workers quit within a month of the incident. This created a serious staff shortage that made it difficult for me to manage my workload. It was a frustrating experience, and I felt like my manager's reaction had contributed to the problem.
However, things have since taken a turn for the better. The remaining workers have started to rely on me more and trust me as a leader. They have also come to appreciate the value of the work we do as a team. As a result, I have more influence and respect among my colleagues.
But here's the thing: now, my manager has to eat from my hand. I have the leverage and power to stand up for my team's rights, and it has paid off in the end.
