My official resignation

Dear capitalism, While I’ve enjoyed working for you over the last 7 years of my life since the moment I turned 18, though unwanted and only out of necessity to not DIE, I would like to not-so-humbly terminate my employment in this position effective immediately. The reasons behind my decision are quite simple; every day it seems myself and my friends and coworkers are making less and less money. Despite our salaries increasing on average of a MEASLY 2% each year (if that), the costs of living and inflation have increased multiple times more than this. Each day that passes it seems we are heading further and further towards a society in which I, the average working adult, will not and SHOULD not own anything. Dear capitalism,

While I’ve enjoyed working for you over the last 7 years of my life since the moment I turned 18, though unwanted and only out of necessity to not DIE, I would like to not-so-humbly terminate my employment in this position effective immediately.

I’m fact, I’m worried that in the not so distant future, this company will simply buy me as an asset, and everything I consume as a basic human right will be either rented or bought from the company. I can no longer afford to buy a house with my income. I can hardly afford to drive my car to work and keep it maintained. In fact, it seems whatever sliver of work-life balance I have left is rapidly approaching ZERO, and soon I may be forced to simply set up a tent outside the workplace just to afford to survive.

With the costs of everything increasing and our salaries unchanging, it serves only to make us (the vast majority of MILLIONS of Americans) poorer each year, while you serve only to provide billions more in cash and assets to the already super wealthy. Hell, you even go out of your way to line the pockets of lawmakers to ensure these people can utilize loopholes to not have to pay taxes on this “income”. I would hedge a bet that I pay more in taxes each year at my $50k/yr job than most billionaires pay.

Because of these reasons, and many more that I can’t find the time or patience to outline for you, I resign from my position in capitalism immediately. I no longer wish to be a slave to this system that exploits us for profit. Perhaps things were better 100 years ago when people could actually afford things and take vacations and have “fun” (whatever that is), but these things are no longer possible. I bid you farewell, and best wishes for you to burn in hell.

Fuck you,

-America
