I currently work home health as a nurse. I do enjoy the job. Ive been doing this for 18 years. Im now at the point where im just tired of this field of nursing. I drive a lot, around 28k miles a year. Im now ready to work from home. The driving is really getting tiresome. My company doesn't have any work from home openings. I found a lot of companies that offer WFH positions on indeed. I sent out my resume and had a lot of responses. I liked one in particular and set up a phone interview. It was for last Friday at 9am. Each day I would get a text reminder of the interview. So the day of the interview comes. Im a very punctual person(military services molded me this way) At 8:45 I put the dog in the kennel, turn off the TV and get my air pods in and wait. 9am, nothing,9:10 nothing. I do give the interview the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they are running behind from another interview? 9:15 still nothing. I even check to make sure I got the time zone right. I'm Central and the interview was set for 9AM CST. I check to make sure that I didn't need to download some app to connect, I don't. They will call me. So now im no longer interested in the job. It was very unprofessional to not reach out to me.
fast forward to later that day. I get a call from the recruiter from the company. She asked how my interview went. I told her it didn't happen, no one called me and no one reached out to reschedule. This is basically how the conversation went.
Recruiter” Did you call our company to find out why no one called you?
Me”No, why would I do that?”
Recruiter” Well this is a very competitive job market and you should take initiative if you really want to work. We get a lot of applications, the ones with drive get hired.”
Me”I feel it's very, very unprofessional to treat potential employees this way, Im not going to grovel for a company. Im not going to spend my morning chasing down a person who I don't even have a contact for. Im not wasting anymore of my time!”
I then told her to please toss my resume in the trash, no matter how sweet the job and perks are im not interested. If you treat me this badly before im hired I can't image how life would be after starting work.
I must say, this sub has really helped me see how being treated a certain way is not acceptable. Who knows, a few years ago I might have been that bootlicking nervous guy who would done anything I was told. Not now, the interview goes both ways. You want me, make me want you.
