My salary expectations?!

I have been asked by my manager what my salary expectations are for 2023. Apologies for the long ass post but i don’t want to skip ‘key points’ Background information: Job role: technical support Location: Lower east Essex The bonus is 25% personal target & 75% company if we hit our yearly target turnover. I don’t like to count the 75% bonus as what i earn because this is the first year the company has hit bonus in the last 10+ years so not consistent. Joining salary (Dec 2018): 26k (+2k yearly bonus) Jan 2020: 27k (+4k yearly bonus) July 2020: 29k (bonus remains the same as Jan 2020) Jan 2021: 30k (+4k yearly bonus) Jan 2022: 30k (+6k yearly bonus) There is only 10 of us, 3 in which are salesman so 7 of us office based. I get on with the UK manager really well who also happens…

I have been asked by my manager what my salary expectations are for 2023.

Apologies for the long ass post but i don’t want to skip ‘key points’

Background information:
Job role: technical support
Location: Lower east Essex

The bonus is 25% personal target & 75% company if we hit our yearly target turnover. I don’t like to count the 75% bonus as what i earn because this is the first year the company has hit bonus in the last 10+ years so not consistent.

Joining salary (Dec 2018): 26k (+2k yearly bonus)
Jan 2020: 27k (+4k yearly bonus)
July 2020: 29k (bonus remains the same as Jan 2020)
Jan 2021: 30k (+4k yearly bonus)
Jan 2022: 30k (+6k yearly bonus)

There is only 10 of us, 3 in which are salesman so 7 of us office based. I get on with the UK manager really well who also happens to be the grandson of the original founder 75+ years ago.

The technical manager only got the position 7-10 years ago because he knew the UK manager at the time. As of today, nobody likes him within work but socially he is a likeable guy. What i mean by this, all of the salesmen will contact me directly to arrange site visits, training, speaking with their difficult customers, invite me out to meet their customers when socialising and work events.
Yes he does have more knowledge than me but that is only because he has been here longer so generally more experience with the equipment.

There has been open talks with head office that he sees myself and one of the salesmen as the future of the company and i have no doubt when the technical manager leaves either by choice or forced to leave (the office don’t think he is a suitable manager, just because you have knowledge doesn’t mean you can manage a team).

I was told I’d be receiving a pay rise in Jan 2022 but this was pushed back as ‘HR don’t give out 3 pay rises in 4 years’. Instead I’ll get one this June.

He pulled me aside today and told me to start thinking about my salary expectations for 2023 as he would rather give me a small increment in June as it keeps his word and then a bigger raise in Jan 2023.

I will research similar roles in my area including responsibility and tasks.

I don’t want to ask for too much for him to feel that i am taking the piss e.g. asking for what the tech manager is earning (unknown £) or more but i don’t want to sell myself short

Thank you all in advanced for your inputs
