My union doesn’t care about our rights as workers.

I work at a paper mill called Pixelle specialty solutions in York Pennsylvania USA. They make us work 7 days a week and we haven’t had a day off in 3 months. We swing to a different shift every weekend, 2 out of 3 swings only have 8 hours in between. It has been going on this way for over 150 years and the union does not care whatsoever. Over 3000 people work at just my location, and Pixelle owns multiple mills across the states. The company keeps saying that “we’ll get everyone 1 day off a week when we have more staff,” but they’ve been promising that for DECADES. They don’t hire the majority of people who apply, even though there are over 100 jobs available internally. Those 100 jobs are senior positions that the union members should be able to bid into, but the UNION hides them because…

Those 100 jobs are senior positions that the union members should be able to bid into, but the UNION hides them because “we don’t want people bidding out of their department so they’re short handed,” Even though those 100 positions open are someone else being short handed. When a position is short handed here, they put the other 2 position holders on 7 DAY A WEEK 12 HOUR SHIFTS indefinitely until they fill the position. They work their employees to the BONE and the union could care less. Don’t get me wrong, you should unionize, but when your union isn’t doing SHIT you need to fight back against them and the company at the same time, and that takes a lot of people. Please spread this around, I can’t reach enough alone.
