I don't know if this qualifies for antiwork, but I thought I would post it here. So, wife started a remote job about a year ago. One of the perks is unlimited PTO. I am sure that was one of the big factors in accepting a position in this company. I know my wife was happy about it.
My wife came from a non-profit here in the US that only offered a set number of days off, so she wasn't sure what to expect, as far as unlimited PTO, that is. It seemed like it was like it sounded, as long as there was not anything pressing, you can take time for yourself. A model that I know many places outside of the US uses.
Well, today they had a meeting and said that they are replacing PTO with FTO, which stands for “Flexible Time Off”. I guess what that means is that after a certain number of days, you have to request the PTO off way in advance and it also has to be approved by the next level of management, which in my wife's case is a step above the director. Needless to say, there are many employees that are pissed about this change…in the US, mind you. You see, this new PTO…I mean, FTO…model only applies to the employees in the good ol' USA.
I personally find it messed up. This isn't just change to the policy, it is an entire rewrite of the benefit that many people took the job expecting to have, and especially because it only applies to employees located in the US.
