Hey, first post here, and sorry but this is mostly a rant.
My parents are going on a cruise, starting June 12 and ending June 23. It’s nice and they deserve it especially with everything going on (both in their lives and just in the world in general)
I told my work that, between the days of June 12 and June 23 I would not be able to come in, because I will be the only adult in the house for 2 weeks. For some context, I work part time as a Service Clerk at a grocery store, I mostly just bag groceries for people which isn’t that demanding, and we aren’t understaffed so there are people who can pick up the slack while I’m unavailable (and by slack I mean bagging and occasionally exchanging propane)
I have my learners permit, but the only vehicle I can legally drive is a small scooter (a Wolf Rx-50), and due to bad eyesight I can’t drive at night, the sun goes down by 7:30 and my house is a half an hour ride from my work.
I also have to regularly walk my two dogs, check for egg, feed all the pets, etc. it doesn’t sound like much but it takes up the majority of the day to do.
Work, completely ignored my request and scheduled me for EVERY SINGLE DAY during those two weeks. Half of those shifts are closing (9pm) which means I won’t be able to get home safely afterwards, and it’s looking like I’ll need to rely on neighbors to drop me off/pick me up, which is bad because my neighbors ALSO HAVE JOBS, and won’t always be able to give me a ride.
The other half of the shifts are okay, most of them being 4-5 hour shifts that have me getting off before 7, so those ones aren’t as much as a serious problem as they are blatant disregards of my request for time off.
Also, I say request because that is what they call them, but tbh they are more like statements because I’m not “requesting” that I’m unavailable, I’m directly telling them that I am not able to be there.
TL:DR work scheduled me during a 2 week period that I’m not available due to personal responsibility
Sorry for the rant, hope this was a somewhat enjoyable read and that you took something from this example of a workplace disregarding your personal life and responsibilities.
