Not only racist, but in the year I've worked here no lgbt or racial minority has lasted more than a month at most. I'm white, straight, and male myself, and I've only gotten close to one of these guys. He's black and the only guy I've been close with since we actually worked together. He was a good guy and a good worker, but a couple of my coworkers gave him a hard time, and we concluded it was because he's black when they started using slurs. We went to our immediate supervisor about it and he insisted we do not go to HR and that he would handle it. Well one of the bigots apologized, but continued to harass him. We did go to HR, they took their notes and our statements but ultimately nothing happened. My coworker asked that, at the very least, he not be close some specific people since he didn't feel safe. They did though, and of course life has been miserable for him. Just yesterday he called our supervisor racist for allowing this stuff to happen, and today he was fired for.. what exactly I don't know, calling our boss out for being a bigot I guess. We work for a tribe so we don't follow state (Michigan) law, only federal, so I don't know what I can do about this. We go through so many good people and good workers because apparently a few of my remaining coworkers and all of the people above us are hateful. I don't know what to do. I have a few audio recordings of the language my supervisor and coworkers use, but HR doesn't care about that and I don't know how viable it is anywhere else. I'm at a loss, I don't know what I can do for my more diverse coworkers.
