I started this job in October with the expectation that it is a M-F job, 8 hours a week, with overtime occasionally sprinkled in, never expected or forced. This is according to my manager and interviewer.
The past month and a half, I have been working 10+ hour shifts, 5 or 6 days a week, with no sign of it getting better. My mental health struggles, and my fiancé’s mental health also did too as I was never available. I no longer have time to get groceries, do laundry, any chores, or remotely enjoy myself and live life. I told HR I had thoughts of self harm because of the imbalance and all they did was give me a hotline instead of hear my grievances and adjust.
I was told it’s better to make them fire me instead of quitting so I can file for unemployment. If I just work my 8 hours in a day and just leave, this shouldn’t be considered job abandonment (ie. quitting), should it?
