I just quit an underpaying job for a much better opportunity. Understandably, they wanted the keys I had back, one for their store and the other for their warehouse. I had the warehouse key, but unfortunately lost the other. I'm pretty sure it happened when I was getting into my car, so I assume it is somewhere in my yard but I haven't seen it anywhere. It's lost and I don't think it's going to turn up.
Today, I receive this text. I only made a little over $2 the minimum wage, and I do know they legally can't deduct anything that will put me below the legal minimum wage. But is it even legal to deduct the cost for changing locks at all? The business is in Missouri. I am hoping they can't just freely do this with no written agreement, contract, hell, they don't even have an employee handbook. They're already currently facing a lawsuit too lol. Any help or advice is appreciated, thanks!
