I’m going to be transparent when I say I’m a senior in high school. My parents told me to not get a job because I don’t need too but I wanted to learn how to support myself and establish worth ethic early on. I also want to save up money before I go off to college. I work at a job that pays $11 (minimum wage in my state). I’m heavily involved in theatre and am currently in a musical at my high school.
To preface this my manager usually posts a rough draft schedule and then final draft schedule for each month, but he asks for availability very early on (for example for December availability he’d ask first week of November). When he asked for my February hours, I wasn’t sure of my rehearsal schedule yet so I said I would get back to him. He posted the rough draft schedule and I wasn’t on it. I got my musical schedule and saw I had 9 days I was available to work in February-which isn’t a lot but I really like my job and and wanted to make it work. 2 weeks before the final draft was posted, I sent him those 9 days I could work in February. But when he posted the February final draft, I was not on it. at all.
This was a little upsetting to me so I texted him asking why. His response was that my schedule was too busy. I was used to working every Saturday plus none so I was honestly a little shocked. I love my job but I want to be able to do theatre and be on stage, which is what I love. I don’t know how to feel about it. March schedule also just came out and I only got scheduled 2 days when I had even more availability than February. Should I start looking for another job? I’m honestly just a little shocked. Any advice is appreciated!!!
TLDR: Manager didn’t schedule me at all in February because my “schedule was too busy” even though I listed nine days I was fully available. Should I look for another place of work?
