Hi everybody! I hope you all are enjoying today.
I started at a new hotel closer to home as a housekeeper. I have been housekeeping at a different location for a while but the commute was kicking my ass.
I finally found somewhere close and pays more, I was excited and they already knew I had experience in housekeeping.
They were aware about my disability (Deaf/I wear hearing aids) But am very independent and know how to do rooms on my own. I trained 5 days and then another new girl started on my 5th day. now usually when I was trained in previous hotels they trained us all separately. I didn’t complain but thought it was odd they started her off with me when my training was on its last day. She stated she never did hotel housekeeping before. We get to the laundry room and because their laundry team quit they had me and her washing and folding linen. I had a hard time hearing my manager because of the loud banging and whirring of the machines. She got mad at me for this. I stayed professional and asked questions. We finish that up and go start on rooms.
I am proficient and fast at this job but the new girl gets frustrated making the bed my manager tries helping her but gets mad at me for starting on things (dusting, restocking) Now reminder I was already doing rooms on my own here. She wanted me to go at the same pace as the new girl. They started acting weird towards me after I apologized. I kept noticing them whispering away from me together and kinda ignoring me. I just continue doing my job. She then has me go clean with the front desk lady (They had to call front desk to clean remaining rooms because of low staff) No problem I started tidying up those rooms within an hour and was thanked by them. On my final room as I was cleaning the tub water gets on my hearing aid. It malfunctions and I let the manager know it’s going in and out, but I still managed to finish my job. Managers says I will be on my own with my own board. I’m fine with that.
Following the next day my hearing aid still isn’t working right and my manager says I should go home until I get a replacement because she doesn’t want it to slow down her training the new girl. I don’t get why since I’ll be on my own, why does training her and me not hearing equate to me not being able to work? Should I just look for another job or wait it out? I don’t need my hand held, am I wrong?
Manager says she doesn’t feel comfortable working with me without it.
