I had two interviews with a company; one with a HR rep and the second with the managers of the department. The HR person said the position could be done fully remote. In fact, they stressed that the managers just wanted the right candidate and that person could work on the other side of the country as long as they had the experience. During the second interview though, the managers made it seem that the in office work would be mandatory but they were very vague on how often that would be. They said they would need me in the office a couple times a month possibly. The commute is long enough for it to be a hassle/ costly and I’m afraid that they will want me in the office more than what they are alluding to.
The managers confirmed if the ideal candidate was in a different state they would offer the role fully remote. So obviously the job does not require someone to be in the office.
It’s a reputable company with a salary increase for me (nice but not life changing)but I just have no interest in commuting even once a week. I was clear throughout the process that remote work was very important for me. I might be making a huge mistake, but it’s frustrating that they don’t seem willing to budge on the job being fully remote just because I’m a couple hours from the office instead of being in a different part of the country
