“If you have a LinkedIn account and list XXXXX as your employer I’d like to ask you to remove it. We are seeing several scams occur where spoofed emails come through to change payroll records, bank accounts used for direct deposit etc… Not good.”
I saw one of those spoof emails that came in purporting to be from me, asking that my direct deposit info be changed. It was not super-convincing (although our HR person fell for it). I think the company needs to be on its guard and put some guard rails in place. We are a small outfit. It's not hard to confirm with a phone call or text message that an employee initiated that change. Not my responsibility – and there is no way I'm going to remove my current employment info from social media. How else would I ever get a new job than by letting people know where I work now? If I take it off I look unemployed or worse, fired.
