No $ for merits but directors can still get bonuses.

So in January of this year we had a huge company Town Hall where they informed all of us that not only were they letting go like 3,000 people from my company but that nobody in the company would be getting any merits this year cuz there just wasn't money for it. Considering how many people were let go those of us that were not included in that we're actually grateful that we still had jobs. It sucks that we were not going to be getting married and as a manager I was really upset because I felt like my team had busted ass this year and deserved merits. So, I went ahead and I got them something out of my own pocket to thank them because I wanted them to know that I appreciated everything that they had done and I valued them. So, I went ahead and I got them something out of my own pocket to thank them because I wanted them to know that I appreciated everything that they had done and I valued them. I honestly wish I could have given them more.

So I was doing some work and filing stuff away and I come across a signed notice that talks about bonuses for 2023. Which immediately confused me because we didn't have money for merits this year so how could we have money for bonuses this year.

I looked at the document and I saw that it was clearly outlined that directors and above were still eligible to receive bonus payouts.

Some were based on department goals – like sales but some were actually tied to company performance. It also broke down the percentage that each rank, starting with the director at the lowest level and working its way up through the executive chain, would be eligible to receive.

I got reprimanded for tapping into my own personal money and buying my team gift cards as a way to say thank you for all your hard work and letting them know that I appreciated them because we weren't going to be getting merits this year; and now I find out that all associates and managers are being thrown the bird because directors and above are getting bonuses.

I am disgusted to not only be a manager at this company but to be an employee at this company.

The fact that these executives can sit there and look these people in the face and tell them that they're not getting merits but still expect them to do all the work that has to get done so they can get their goddamn bonuses….. To say I am pissed off and disgusted would be the understatement of the century.

I am actively looking for work and I told my people who report to me to start doing the same. Because I care about my employees and I refuse to have them putting all that work in to a company that doesn't fucking care about them.
