I am currently working at a hotel. I have been working this particular hotel for years now, and had many compliments and no complaints. Well, I don't even know where to get started, but 4+ years down the road, some new hotshot GM decided to change my schedule that I've had since the beginning. This may not seem like a big deal, but when you have a disability that requires you to have a set, structured schedule, this throws one helluva wrench into things. Well, for the first time, I approached our HR. I sent e-mail after e-mail. I think it totaled around 3 or 4 over a month, and I had zero response. Out of desperation, I went in person, and told them along the lines “Hey, I haven't had to bring this up, but back when I was hired, I told the GM at the time that I needed a set schedule..” blah blah. I informed them of the change, and apparently, they have no record of this ever being done. They then tell me to give them information. Okay, that is fair and within their rights. Here is the issue though… I was diagnosed with a learning disability 20+ years ago, back in middle school/elementary school. I have not been to a doctor since then, and have been following a routine that works for me for this whole time. This is the first place that has given me issue in all these years of working.
So I tell them I will need to get a new diagnosis, and see a new doctor, which will take time. I tell them I can get all this information, but for my condition, it might take a little bit of time. I have upheld that part, and have been seeking help. The first person I go to see, sees me for 3 sessions, then bold-face lies to my spouse's face that I told her I feel counseling is worthless, so she is charging me extra since I refused to immediately renew with her. There is a little bit more to that, but it isn't relevant to the situation at hand. So I get scammed from this place, for about a month of effort, gone. I then start calling the heavy hitters. Psychologists, psychiatrists, etc… It turns out, fuck me, but the closest appointment is months away, and a 4 hour drive there and back, for 3 visits, totaling about $600-$1500 for the tests alone. Today, I found a psychiatrist who could determine my condition and prescribe medication, but would not provide a letter to my work. I am believe, after talking to some ADA/EEOC members that I should be able to use the prescription information as my proof, so I might go that route if possible.
This leads into the troubles I am now having. Back when the new GM took over, unknown to me, a co-worker, who is part of the owner's family, got promoted to acting GM, and then took over front end operations. We start butting heads, and over the last few months, I've been having more and more back and forth's with this person, until yesterday, I sit down with the GM and the person I'm having troubles with. Nothing I did was right, my words were twisted to make me look like I was doing bad things at work, and then as a cherry on top, after the meeting was over, I looked at my schedule. Lo and behold, they changed it again, only after my most recent complaints on this person. This was after HR agreed to give me time to get documents for them. I contacted the GM and was given a long line of “tough shit” remarks, but in “polite” corpo speak, where I was even told in the texts “There is no record of accommodations”. Hilarious, considering I have saved emails, texts, etc… proving otherwise.
Sorry for the wall of text and sparse details. I don't know what to do, I'm frustrated to the point of shaking from anxiety and anger and feeling just worthless, when all I ever asked them for is to leave my schedule alone and to let me work without being treated poorly.
