I work as a supervisor for a contractor that hires temp agents for contracts. One of the biggest contracts we've ever had is ending suddenly, and the whole contract is done in about a month.
My position isn't in jeopardy because I work on many contracts, but over half my team (16 out of 29) are losing their positions by the end of February.
I immediately started pulling resources on job boards, LinkedIn, interview skills, and all that during the leadership meeting discussing the end of the contract when they drop another bomb: no one in leadership may write a letter of recommendation for anyone. Doing so will result in disciplinary action against the writer and any position the applicant applies for within the company will be denied.
Why? I understand that the nature of a temp agency is that the work is limited, but these folks were told around Christmas that we would be extended a year, only to be followed up with NOPE. I find it unethical that I can't recommend my best workers to another contract within the same company. (They likely won't find out if my direct reports take my letter of recommendation outside the company.)
Just venting because these are people that I've worked with for years and corporate is tying my hands when I try to support them during a tough time.
