This was years ago, but it still annoys me.
I worked in an office and after about a year, I noticed that the only birthdays that were celebrated were for those that were higher up and made a lot of money. Yet all the rest of us were invited to celebrate and have some cake. I brought it up to my manager – how it seemed unfair that none of the lower level coworkers were celebrated. I suggested that people take turns bringing in snacks and celebrate monthly birthdays for everyone in the office.
Apparently the higher level people weren’t happy with that and all birthday celebrations were cancelled after 6 months.
