Far beyond simply bringing a person in for a chat after combing their resume and establishing rapport through an intro call, many companies have gone to Intro Call + Zoom/In Person meeting I with 2-3 people questioning the candidate followed by Zoom/In Person meeting II with 2-4 more people questioning the candidate, followed by radio silence for weeks on end before a decision is rendered. Before a candidate has even advanced to a phone call, some places will make you do ridiculous things like respond to essay questions or solve logic puzzles or record a video of yourself going over things without the nuance of human interaction. I find these hurdles ridiculous given the alleged shortage of labor. And that’s not even factoring in the outright discrimination against older workers, the disabled, minorities, and younger workers in regards to opportunity and salary.
