“No one wants to work!” You’re right, we don’t.

There are so many jobs available in Canada right now but no one who has the support of their family/partner wants to work a shitty job on shitty pay under shitty working conditions. There isn’t a labour shortage or an unwillingness to work. People just don’t want to slave away their lives. Especially if they don’t have to and can be supported by their parents/partner. I moved back in to my parents place in late May, I don’t pay rent and I work part time at the grocery store for productivity reasons mainly. I’m just bored and want to socialise. I’ve been looking for a full time role for an entire month. Everyday I treat my job search like a full time job. 6 pm at the end of the working day I go through job postings posted that day.

I would go through thousands of job postings and on a good day I’d apply to 1 or 2 that I feel like are a good fit for me, culture, industry and pay from the outside looking in.

I believe I’m intelligent, I work hard if I see it’ll take me somewhere, my work experience is quite impressive and I have a likeable personality. So why would I give a shitty company a good employee.

I imagine there are many in similar positions who simply refuse to be underpaid & overworked at a shitty job and are prepared to take as long as necessary to find the right fit, if they have the luxury to do so.

University students and people in their 20’s and 30’s can’t afford to buy a house or move out with roommates so they’re probably living with their parents anyway.

“Competitive wages” good working conditions and good company culture is the only way to hire and retain talent these days.

To the people who don’t have the safety net and luxury of living rent free with your parents/partner I feel for you. Keep looking for better opportunities.
