In college worked two jobs. One was Big Box concentric red circles (the old store) that was closing. Not much staff, and I worked 6-2:30. Soooo tired, so I’d take a nap from when I got home, to 4 or so when I’d get ready for job 2, a blue logo store, starts with G and has a Pantone value of 655. Shift starts at 5 and goes until 10, 1hr after closing. Tried to leave on time, but was told I was part of floorset team. Uhhh, what? Schedule says 10. No, thanks. I’ve been working since 6am, and I’m supposed to open (on a holiday) at 10 tomorrow. I’m going home.
Nope! Apparently that’s ‘not allowed’. Young, naïve me keeps going, almost passes out at 1am, and is FINALLY allowed to leave. At least it’s 8 hours between shifts? So legally, all is OK, I guess. At least I made it home in one piece.
Too bad the AM manager is the hiring/HR manager and wants to know why I’m so p*ssed. Usually such a happy face! Thanks for the warning? I hardly got sleep.
Turns out, I WASN’T supposed to stay. The the manager had a power trip. Oops. Sorry you got in trouble, birch . Maybe don’t keep people hours late, lol.
TL;DR if your schedule says to work until a certain time, that means you work until a certain time. Especially if you have already worked a full-time day.
