I’m a site supervisor at a large nonprofit in Washington state that runs after school programs all over. We are perpetually understaffed and staff never get required 10s or 30s, because we have to decide between being above our legally required ratios of staff to children or letting staff get breaks or even go to the bathroom. We all work in childcare and care about the kids so we all would rather put the kids’ safety first. This is an association wide problem, and my team of supervisors are constantly asking our higher ups to do something about it but it just keeps happening.
I’m wondering what reporting them to the department of labor would look like? If an investigation happened would the people who are actually making these decisions to let us run programs understaffed get in trouble? Any other advice would also be welcome! No one’s gotten a 10 or 30 all school year and it sucks!
