Nonprofit from hell

Back when I was naive and still believed in hard work, I interviewed for a non profit. 1) The director was an HOUR late to the scheduled interview time. I should have ran 2) The director didn’t read my resume at all. She had it in front of her. I worked in IT for several years. She asked if I knew how to use a computer. 3) The job posting and the open position were vastly different. AKA hire a manager for entry level work. 4) She asked why she should hire me because I was so young “no one would take me seriously” 5) She was anti technology. No phones allowed in the building. Only a note pad for notes, calendar for dates, and a calculator that printed results on receipt paper. No paper = no calculations. You had to wander around and find someone to ask them a…

6) The job application asked in three places what dollar amount or percent you’d like to donate from your paycheck back to the non profit.

7) Work through lunch unpaid was expected.

8) Work until 5:30 but put 5:00 on your time sheet was expected.

9) Turnover was INSANE. The person whose job I was replacing left the building crying one day and I never saw her again.

10) The director blamed everyone except herself. She told me turnover was high because everyone was lazy and she hadn’t found “the right people” yet. This was way before covid.

How she’s been the executive director for this government funded nonprofit for 40 YEARS astounds me.

She has negative reviews removed wherever she can, and almost no internet presence because negative reviews are so prevalent.

Anyways that’s my rant. If a company gives red flags during the interview, run, don’t walk away.
