Not all bosses are bad: What happened after my workplace was attacked.

I’ve been a long time lurker of this sub, but I’ve never posted anything and I’ve just watched as my fellow workers struggle. Yesterday night I was working at the restaurant, which I’ve been working at for quite some time. Although not Chinese myself, I come from Asian descent and I find a lot of Chinese influence through my job and my friends. Last night a kid aged maybe 13 to 15 years old came into the restaurant and began yelling very anti-Asian racial slurs. The restaurant was full of people eating and my 2 coworkers and I who handle the counter and cashier were busy handling customers who wanted to order food on the phone. I yelled “Hey get out of here” and the kid ran off. A lot of customers, especially the ones dining in, began to feel distraught, but it wasn’t too major. About 5 to 10…

About 5 to 10 minutes later the kid came back with his friends and they were holding their phones up recording themselves on TikTok while yelling racial slurs as loud as they could. My 2 other employees and I got them out of the restaurant and my 2 other employees got into a fight with them. Being a pacifist myself, I called the police and they promptly arrived after the kids had run off, and one of them got caught later at a pizza shop about 2 miles away.

While this was all unfolding, considering we had 2 other cashiers who were giving details to the police in addition to a stranger who had video evidence, my boss began to work the cash registers and phones himself and gave sodas to my other coworkers. He gave no punishment to us and was thankful that we kept the kids away from the restaurant and escorted them out as soon as possible. He didn’t even time us out on the system while it was all unfolding.

After all of this, I feel very grateful to my boss for supporting my coworkers and I. Although some of us have terrible working conditions and bosses who would’ve chewed us out for doing such a thing, I’m happy to know that not all bosses and businesses owners out there are terrible, and I wholeheartedly support the movement to improve the working conditions of all workers.
