Left my last job and industry after not being able to do it for ages, and I get a call from my friend earlier this week that he found the perfect job for me.
I call the owner, talk to him, and he kinda skirts around what the actual job is but it seems like he’s setting up a tech office. Cool, I like tech, I want to work in tech.
I go in, guy hires me on the spot, says for the first 30 days I’ll be an independent contractor, and if everything works out, he’ll hire me on after the 30 days.
So far I’ve worked two shifts for him, he already got mad at me because he told me do A, B, C, but he actually wanted me to do A, B, C, D, E, and I hadn’t done it.
Today and yesterday was moving shit around an office, setting up a TV, and vacuuming an office, tomorrow I’m apparently helping him lift this super heavy shelf?
All the meanwhile, I haven’t signed anything, there’s no paperwork that’s been put in front of me, no official way to keep track of my hours, it’s all basically he said I’ll be working for $20 an hour, but nothing to back it up.
I don’t want to lose this opportunity because that’s a ton of money and would solve a few problems in life, but at the same time I feel like I’m getting fully screwed and taken advantage of and I’m not sure what to do
