I was informed yesterday that our California office is closing June 30th from the CEO and VP of HR. My boss asked if we were going to get a severance and/or retention bonus if we stayed till June 30th to help with the transition of work. My CEO said “no, you guys have no incentive to stay.” What I'm confused about is who is going to handle all the office closing matter? Will they hire a third party vendor? Are they sending someone from HQ (East coast) to take care of everything?
I am the administrative manager for this branch. I handle everything IT and office related. We have about 60 cubicles (60 company desktops, 60 Cisco phones), 15 manager offices (15 company laptops, 15 Cisco phones), 3 conference rooms (3 company VC systems), server room (switches, power distribution, UPS, etc.). This doesn't even include all the office furniture (selling or trashing of the desks, chairs, etc.).
My boss advised everyone in the office to draft a letter to HR requesting a retention bonus and a severance. What should I ask for? I have been with the company a little under 3 years now. I don't want to sound “greedy” or “outrageous.”
Ideas that my coworkers had mentioned:
– extra pay (retention bonus) of 3 months salary if I stay until closing date.
– severance of 2 weeks per year after office close.
– covered insurance for 6 months after office closed.
– career support like resume writing, networking, etc.
