Never thought I’d post here as a long time lurker and occasional commenter, but here goes. I work for my city doing custodial work for our local parks. Our newest crew leader, who I was passed up for in the hiring process because I wasn’t friends with our previous supervisor, has been playing favorites for years and it keeps getting worse.
Last year I was hit by a car while riding home, leaving me with a permanent ankle injury. 3 months away from work for hospital recovery and rehab, and our crew leader made snide comments to my temp about letting me go because he doesn’t like my work ethic(aka I always show up every day, get my stuff done and go home rather than chat or stay for management’s half-assed pizza parties.)
After coming back, over the last year I’ve consistently been assigned to do all the major work or cover events involving thousands of citizens while he and the others either get the early shift together or the entire day off. I know this is likely his way of hazing to get me out. Have tried speaking with management to no avail. They always gloss over my complaints because they think he is perfect, and are also preparing him to take over as our next foreman.
I’ve also tried applying for other city jobs for months, thinking I’d have an easier time getting a job while working for the city… and have yet to receive a single interview. I’m stressed, mentally drained and losing hope as I don’t want to leave and lose my income being a parent with a child to feed. Taking a 2 week mental health vacation starting monday to get away from this hell for a while.
