So I work as an academic in a University in the UK (ex-Poly) in the Aerospace Engineering department.
Basically, a lot of people have been leaving recently, however I am enjoying my time as I am just teaching students and I am happy as it is.
However, there is a role called Course Director (not job, mind you) which soon nobody will have as that person is leaving. Basically it comes with a ton of admin stuff that is absolutely depressing and will have to do that besides the teaching.
Note that the role does not come with ANY benefits (money or otherwise), but it is a good role for someone who wants to go up the ladder in this place, which I don't.
One of the higher-ups will soon have a “discussion” with me in which they would try to push the role on me. I am just afraid they would somehow force it on me, but I am not sure how likely it is. Anyway, I am currently thinking of a strategy to talk to this guy and get myself out of this mess.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? What have you done in this case?
