I work for a multimillion dollar company. The office has a staff 30+ people and the warehouse that is attached has much more. The bathrooms only work about 30% of the time and this has been an ongoing issue for around 7 months. If we do need to use the restroom we have to walk outside to the next building which is about 100 yards away. It is not ADA compliant nor does it have a ramp to even get inside the building, only stairs. There is no covered walkway so we have to walk in the elements. Apart from that, the toilets in the main office are constantly getting clogged. I have listened to plumber after plumber tell them that the pipes they went with when remodeling where the wrong size and the only way to truly fix the issue is to rip everything up and replace them with the correct plumbing. Yet they still refuse and just say snake it so it can be a quick cheap fix. But that’s not all. I’m not sure the exact name but the vent hole that you normally see outside where they plumbers snake the drain….is 10 ft behind my desk in the hallway. Yep, inside the office, in the hallway by the bathrooms, behind my desk. The smell is horrible and poo water leaks onto the floors often. Today was hot and the fumes literally made me sick. HR says there is nothing they can do. I voice my concerns and I’m made to feel like a crybaby. My coworkers complain but not as loud as me and I’m the one sitting closest. Why not move desks you ask? Because the alternative to smelling poo is to smell cigarette smoke. Yes my boss and his friends also smoke inside the office and if I move desks then I will be closer to the cigarette smoke. Also got listen to a senior member of management say that it’s all the women in the office who are to blame since we use toilet paper and that’s what’s clogging the toilet. Since we haven’t learned to stop using toilet paper then our punishment is a broken toilet and having to walk to use the restroom. So we are essentially being punished for being women and having to use toilet paper. I feel like they are now knowingly exposing us to hazardous conditions like fecal matter, fumes and biohazards. Am I overreacting or is this a legit cause for concern?
