Overtime laws desperately need a complete re-do.

I'm non-exempt lower management in a casino, which is to say I'm still paid hourly. My upper manager has been pulling a fun little trick where she puts me on for five days at the end of one week, and four or five at the beginning of the next, making for a nine or ten day straight work week. Then through some more scheduling jiggery, I don't even get the four days off this should result in. She'll just cut a couple hours off of a shift here and paste them somewhere else to avoid that too. As far as I'm concerned, I'm due 40 hours of overtime for this. But that's exactly why she's doing it, because our current overtime laws make it perfectly legal to work someone 80 hours in a row without paying any overtime. That's completely fucking ridiculous. That's completely fucking ridiculous. Overtime should be based on consecutive days worked, not some arbitrary pay period week nonsense. I'm burning out hard with this shit, and when I confront her about it, I get some “way she goes, Bubs” equivalent bullshit out of it.

This needs to change.
