I work as a legal assistant at this small firm in Chicago IL. I’ve been working for two months, putting in about 90 hours every pay period (45 hours a week). I have not received any overtime pay. Initially, a manager said it was because after 3 months I would get commission for the monthly cases I finished. I know commissioned workers do not qualify for overtime pay. Yesterday the firm owner said I would begin getting commission pay after 6 months, and I was eligible for overtime pay after today.
Does my employer owe me the overtime pay I earned the first two months of working? That’s at least 30 hours of overtime I was paid at regular wage.
Any advice here is helpful, thank you!
