Wall Street Propagandists Trying to Claw Back your Hard-Earned Pay Raise

Another terrible Bloomberg Op Ed: https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2022-04-12/fed-s-inflation-fight-could-use-a-slower-jobs-market Some footnotes: “The Fed view is that when there's too much of an imbalance between labor demand and supply, you get a dysfunctional market with too much turnover and pay increases that lead to a unacceptable level of inflation.” Ok, time for some history. Real wages have been stagnant since the early 70s. Household wealth has been eroded ever since. Meanwhile, worker productivity increased 60%, and market indicies and corporate profit exploded. Strange that only now, when wages have budged ever so slightly, we have “unacceptable” issues? “Slowing job growth should lead to lower inflation over time because worker income won't be growing as much as it has been since the recovery began.” Fun fact: most of the current inflation is profits rather than wages. By some measures, 60% of the current round of inflation is due to corporate profits, and not wages: https://mattstoller.substack.com/p/corporate-profits-drive-60-of-inflation…

sent in my resignation last night.

I received an email back this morning asking “Please help me with a reason for your decision.” I don't have to tell them the reason for my resignation correct?

The best a worker can do under the capitalist system is to be the least productive as possible

Put very simply, the least productive a worker is, the more of them are needed. So not only are more workers employed, salaries also increase. For exemple, if everyone in an industry were to work a few % less on average, this might be enough to double the ammount of openings at the time. This would increase competition for hiring, meaning even those being paid the least would have a chance to either ask for more or simply move to a higher paying job. Another benefit of workers being less productive, is more money goes to them overall, meaning a smaller gap between the top earners (CEOs, shareholders…) and the workers. So when you see a story about how people are more productive, remember that that is precisely why they make less. More productivity means that less workers are needed, and thus the less they are paid. AI and automation…

Boss is attempting to deny me my requested days by delaying work. What do I do?

Last week on Wednesday, I informed my boss that I’d be taking 4/13 and 4/14 off. I submit the request and he informed me that “I will not approve those days until you finish X.” So, I worked Sunday and finished yesterday evening. It’s now Tuesday, I am expecting tomorrow off (I have an interview because I want to leave this place anyway) so I have to be off. My boss made a total of 4 changes already that required me to redo everything, and he’s currently working on his fifth. Now my boss is talking to the CEO about making a change that would require 5-7 more hours of work from me. The CEO, yesterday, assured me that there would be no change. He is currently agreeing with the idea of making a change. Yesterday evening, before I left (an hour late), I asked “Will you be approving my…

Was going to apply to a company up until I saw they had a horrendously long interview process AND a special employment verification check you had to fill out and sign off on before getting an offer. When are companies going to stop playing these stupid games?

I had a job that I was going to apply for at a company that I looked into and was pretty excited about. The company was fully remote and even had asynchronous working schedules, 100% individual health coverage, annual development funds, etc. As I was looking at the job listing and scrolling to the bottom they laid out their “interview process”. The sheer number of interviews alone was a bit of a turn off (5, one of which is a panel), and they also want you to do a case study and presentation before ever actually talking with anyone other than the recruiter, which prevents the potential employee from being able to determine if the company is a good fit for them before having to devote multiple hours of work that I'm assuming is unpaid. But the final dagger was the company uses a system called Veremark to have the…

Never forget; You have the right to be lazy.

If, uprooting from its heart the vice which dominates it and degrades its nature, the working class were to arise in its terrible strength, not to demand the Rights of Man, which are but the rights  of capitalist exploitation, not to demand the Right to Work which is but the right to misery, but to forge a brazen law forbidding any man to work more than three hours a day, the earth, the old earth, trembling with joy would feel a new universe leaping within her. But how should we ask a proletariat corrupted by capitalist ethics, to take a manly resolution Paul Lafargue, “The Right To Be Lazy”, 1883.

I asked for a raise and my hours got cut

I started at $13/hr and ended up with a key to the store and counting the safe every night so I asked for a raise and got told they can't do it and to talk to the district supervisor if I want. I talked to the district supervisor and got told they can't do it. Manager talked to me and was mad I called district supervisor. Next week I went from about 35 hours to 20 hours. Okay one week. Next week I saw I only had about 20 hours again so I called in saying I can't work. Next day I went in an hour late said I don't feel like doing anything got sent home and fired. The same week I got another job more in line with what I want and pays more than $20/hr. I'm glad the gas station fired me. Tldr:had key to the store…

“Would someone just please pay my mortgage so I have a place to starve to death”

Something one of my coworkers said to a few of us today. It made us all laugh but the sentiment runs deep.
