A friend of mine who works at Safeway as a courtesy clerk got a notice discribing negotiations he can vote for or against. Obviously he will be voting against and they will have to renegotiate the terms of a new agreement if enough vote no on it. Its just a crying shame the terms that provide wage increases and bonus payments of $750 to $1400 apply to everyone working at Safeway except courtesy clearks(who actually do more or sometimes harder work than other staff) I am so glad I quit Safeway for greener pastures.
Curious what people are passionate about. Whether it's just smoking weed on the beach doing nothing until the end of your days or learning a new skill or hobby, making/producing things, gardening, whatever. Lay it on me. If we finally succeeded in ending work. What's next for you?
To preface this, I have been homeless before for about a year and a half. So I suffer from pretty severe ADHD but some of the times I value the most in my life are from those times as a “nomad” so to speak. I met a lot of great people and felt the most alive when I lived outside of the realm of capitalism, or off the grid entirely I guess. I’m a visual artist and a musician before anything and working shit jobs for little to no compensation really kills my soul to the core. I don’t know if I want to go back to that entirely because struggling for food and such wasn’t exactly fun but I have a bit of a nostalgic attachment to being entirely free and living without judgement or the fear of losing my home. I dunno, I’m just venting and being sentimental/nostalgic…
“8 hour workday” is a scam
Tryna make this as short as possible. So early march I started a job at Dairy Queen. Last Week I volunteered to stay an extra hour to help out, last Saturday I covered someone’s shift and worked a double from 11-9pm. Today someone called out and I offered to cover a second shift and work a double from 12-10. Manager leaves at 4 and the 17 yr old shift leader takes over. From 4-6 I’m by myself in the ice cream area. He helps me a little bit but for the most part he’s either leaning against a wall or helping drive thru. I’m behind on shit. Finally around 6 a trainee shows up and helps me out to the best he can. I’m still newish he’s been there for a week or two and it’s not going great. The store owner shows up, who everyone says is an asshole…
a more ideal world
I know this sounds lazy and thats not the case, I promise!! First of all I feel like people should not HAVE to work to live. Atleast not in normal society's view of work. We should work for ourselves and eachother. It should be mandatory in school for us to be taught real life skills and how to live off the land. Ex: farming/building, along with the other classes we take. Some may say “then no one will want to be drs, join the military, etc” many of those who choose to join careers like that are passionate about their job. Chances are, there may be a shortage, but there will still be people who want to work in those feilds. We should also be taught how to take care of medical issues just incase we are somehow in danger. Self defense classes should be taught. We really need to…
People who love their job
While you might exist here in rare form, where are you. And, why do love your job so much?
