No Way We Voted Against This
So, I wanted to rant about this, and this subreddit seems to be the perfect place to discuss this. At an unnamed major university in the south, student workers here are paid 7.25 still, far below the salaries of other major research institutions and even farther behind local restaurants IN the town the college is in. I’m in student govt here, and tonight, legislation was proposed for our student govt org to support the IDEA of raising student workers’ wages and to begin dialogue with university administration about the feasibility of such increases. Needless to say, our student government, who is sworn to uphold the interests of the very constituents that would be positively impacted by such policies, voted overwhelmingly not to pass this piece of legislation. I’m just so frustrated that something so obviously good would be turned down BY STUDENTS. What are y’all’s thoughts on it?

I applied and received an offer for another internal position at my company. Part of the “standard process” is for the two managers to negotiate the start date of the employee in question- between themselves, without any input from the candidate (me). All of this happened before I accepted the offer. Because all this happened without my input, my existing manager is telling the team- other managers and my peers- that I’m leaving. And of course, making these announcements without consulting me. I never submitted a formal resignation, never even mentioned to my current manager I was interviewing or whether I accepted the position (I did accept). To add insult to injury, my current manager is making me stay with his team for 6 weeks before I start the new role, due to him needing time to find a replacement. And had the audacity to tell me I actually have…
