A link to minimum wage by country. No country is higher than 15$. IMO it’s more about social programs than income. $7.25 in the USA is a joke considering we offer very little social support and are the “strongest empire the world has ever known”.

Done with the job I’ve been at for years

Yesterday I was working the freight truck, and I asked the other manager what happened a while back, because I'd come in to open the next day and the store was a mess, she responded by calling me a “fucking liar piece of shit” when I told her that there was stuff left out and half the paperwork not done. Boss did nothing. Today I got texts from the boss throughout the day asking for updates as to what was getting put out. After I'm home I get a text that seems like it was meant for the other manager “He says he put out this and that today. Does it look like it?” So the boss doesn't trust me to do my job even tho I've been there longer than her I don't plan on staying there if that's the type of shit they're gonna pull after I bust…

Sick of picking up the slack due to understaffing!

I have two jobs right now and both of them became hell on earth when we became short-staffed. Why do these employers think the ongoing answer to understaffing needs to be “just give that work to so and so to get it done!” Guess what? So and so is already working full-time on their own job and doesn't have time to take on another job for no pay!! All of a sudden I'm responsible for all this extra work for no pay!! Note to employers: understaffing might mean you can't really provide that service anymore. Stop telling two people to do the job of 50 while pocketing all the money you're saving on salaries!! But of course, why would you do that when you can slave drive the employees you do have straight into the ground while making the company richer?

Interviewed just to lecture me about my unavailability on weekends

This happened recently for an interview at Residence Inn, near Dulles, and happened to my S/O, who I actually encouraged to apply there. I'm going to refer to herself as first person, as it's easier to write. … The position I applied for is nothing fancy, but for housekeeping which I have plenty of experience for and am very good at it with raving reviews from renowned hotels (including 5 starred hotels) from other states. Since I am currently studying again to switch careers, I thought of working part time as a housekeeper to help with bills. The position they have open required only part time. No other requirements whatsoever. And when applying online, I indicated that I'm only available on Weekdays, early mornings and mornings. This schedule is viable for me since I'm taking evening classes and need to study over the weekend. I applied around at 8PM, and…

my manager wants me to work sick.

I work overnights and had to call off work on Tuesday because of what I thought was a migraine. The next morning I wake up feeling like death with cold and flu symptoms. I take a rat and it comes back negative and I go to my doctor and get a pcr test just in case. My doctor gives my until Friday off. My manager has the balls to ask if I can come in on Friday night because most of my shift would be on Saturday. I'm not even rostered for Friday night. I have 200+hours of sick leave. Just let me recover in peace God dammit.

The Google Talk that Google tried to not publish

Watch it, and I think you'll see why. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_zt3kGW1NM Here is the first comment from the video with some of the back story. Mike Peterson 3 years ago To those at Google watching this who don't know the story: Google initially decided, for the first time in its history, to not publish this video to its Talks at Google site here on YouTube after it was recorded. This presentation was given on the second week of September, note the publishing time lag. Giridharadas contacted Google to ask why, and his contact said “I'm not on that team anymore” and was blown off. He then leaked the story to a leading tech journalist, who started calling Google for comment because she was working on a story about why, for the first time ever, a Talks at Google video was not published. They published it the same week — obviously reluctantly and…
