So I quit my previous manager because frankly she was shit at managing and knew nothing about the job. As well as being an arsehole. I saw the new job ad for the vacancy I made and she's written the responsibilities out wrong. No, they haven't changed, these are just mistakes. Do I message her on LinkedIn to tell her?
Quick question – reference:
Just had a reference request for an employee who is moving on, few standard questions, then there’s this: “Number of days of parental leave days taken in the last 5 years (18 years for a disabled child) and specify in respect of which child this leave was taken.” Are they even allowed to ask this? I have a child with some issues that require some appointments etc to deal with and I know this employee is in a similar boat. Can they even ask for this information and potentially discriminate based on the response?
Mods, please consider actually pinning this post this time so we can stop having this discussion. Everyone should know their rights. a short break
I quit my job on Wednesday. I have another one starting in a few weeks and am spending the time between packing and moving to the new job. But damn I wish I could just… not work. I love my industry but I really wish I didn't have to work full time to survive. I'm disabled and need more rest than most people (yesterday I was awake for a full 6 hours). I don't know how long I'll manage full time this time. I need a UBI.
My work recently told me that “we don’t lose that many people to low wages” and that if we want better wages we “just have to work more efficiently” – how soon before the next employee quits?
So this took place 8 ish years back. Only lasted two weeks in the job, still embarrassed how much they hooped me. I was fresh off of a breakup, out of money, working a gig economy job on the side, when I ran into Dave. Dave was trying to create a sales company to sell premium fire saftey equipment straight to families. It was a tough sell, “hey barely middle class family, wanna go on a 48 month loan at $250 a month for fancy smoke detectors” I hate sales jobs, the job was advertised as a “fire saftey education job” and I was baited and switched into a sales position. And good lord Dave wanted me to sell. He once said to me “if you're one of these people that waste my time telling me labour laws I don't want you”. He wanted his “employees”to come in at 8…
I finally can share this with people and let it off my chest. Being a manager made me lost faith in people. Living in Mexico I joined an “advergames” company as a game developer. Our previous manager disappeared due to some problems with the bottle and since I picked up his work during his absence I was promoted to: Director of Programming. So, being a manager destroyed my will, almost made.me quit game development. During that year I always looked up for my team and took care for them because I have always been as anti-work as life has allowed me to. (Altho I recently leant about the term) But fucking assholes, hiring was pain, I had to constantly fight my boss so I could get decent wages for the new hires. They wouldn't pay us overtime, and I did not want to abuse my team so I would stay…
I usually get my payslip emailed to my account but this week I haven’t received it, to make matters worse I believe I was underpaid by $100. I’ve already spoken to them about getting my payslip but I still haven’t received it. Don’t know how to go about this because I feel like they’ll keep saying “yeah sure, we’ll get it sent over!” But it’s almost been a week.
Welp, here’s to hopin.
Its been a long couple months, both parents fighting covid. Some of this medicine is stupid expensive, both missing work over this. I've stepped up to pay what bills I can but my job only pays $11.50/hr. Its not much, just janitorial work at a medical college, but it sucks to be a viewed as “unskilled labor” while my bank account sinks. I worked at a sawmill prior to this, for not much more per hour, where I got to watch fingers and toes chopped off, smashed off, broke off and even someone die, so I appreciate them for giving me a way out. I've been putting in 1 application a day for the past few weeks to better paying jobs and FINALLY got a phone interview this Tuesday. Almost triple what im making now, Im really hoping it goes well because I dont know how much more I can…
