Thoughts on bullshit, faux-pas management.

In general, what are y'all's thoughts on any faux-pas, fake sounding, bullshit “management” title and how you treat that person any differently. A little back story, I help my clients navigate the job market and their long-term career planning (on a non-profit basis with much more to be said about the life my client wants first and how/if/when to pursue a job to fulfill that more wholesome life-planning). I had a client today complain about a shift lead at a past Starbucks they worked at. My client told me tales of being ridiculed, belittled, all the usual from a fucking shift lead. To which I'm like, “if they can't fire you without approval from an actual manager, then they ain't no manager.” (Paraphrasing a tad). So that's my general take. If you can't hire or fire without approval from a higher person, you are not a manager. And when one…

Recruiters act like no one else has anything to do

I got a message from a recruiter 2 weeks ago that they thought I'd be good for a job. I messaged them back and today I hear back at 9am. “Hey thanks for replying. Send me your number and a good time for you to talk today about the job ” Right. Just let me drop my day job at the last minute.

I miss the days

When my dreams and hopes were alive — and they were nice dreams like doing something meaningful to help people, animals, the environment, creating profound art, having a family. I miss the days when my friends had no color or race, and all I wanted was to have fun with them, go on bike rides, tell jokes, play games, and jump rope. I miss the days when I never wanted to go to bed because I was having such a good time being awake. I miss the days when I could not wait to wake up in the morning to start my new day. I miss reading and discovering new things, excited to uncover mysterious rocks and be astonished by interesting facts. I miss believing in miracles, having faith, trusting, being overcome with zeal and zest for life. Work needs to change because I miss those days.

Managers been deadnaming me to others apparently

I work as a barista and am transgender, I just got word from a coworker who is also transgender that my manager was deadnaming me to a manager from another location in our coffee shop chain. I have not used that name in years and it’s only connected to me legally. The manager from that store told my coworker because she was pissed about it and he told me. How do I go about this? Should I speak to the other manager she deadnamed me to? She’s already said multiple transphobic things. There is another transgender coworker who is not out to our manager (you can see why) who said our manager told him “You’re the only man man around here” (the only three men who work here are me and two other transgender men including himself), implying my other coworker and I are less men for being transgender.

Hey, you! Over here!

Hello. It's nice to talk with you here. I am sorry for the suffering you are enduring. My heart feels for you. There is a way out of this chaos, though. I swear it to you. Even in the night, there is always a light. You are undoubtedly oppressed. You are shown no mercy. Forgive me for that, for your bosses and your leaders show you none, when in reality you deserve it all. You are told to work yourself to death for nothing. For something, actually. That something is greed. Greed of those who continually push you into the ground. You are denied better working conditions. The right to a future filled with security and prosperity. I am deeply sorry. Our leaders have failed you. Utterly. I cannot continue to contain the emotion I feel for you. It drives me to speak with you now, as whoever you are,…

Insane Job Interview

This is going to be a bit long. I had the absolute strangest job interview less than 6 hours ago. I am a medical esthetician. My preferred area of expertise is in body contouring procedures. Where I work now only does 2 methods and I would like to find a position that offers more. So, I knew something was up before I even walked in the door. I had sent my resume to them on indeed because they posted they were looking for someone. The same day I sent my resume she responded at 1030pm asking if she could call that night to speak a bit over the phone. I was honest and told her that at the moment I could not give her undivided attention. She said she understood and asked me to call her sometime the next day after 12. So I did. For the very first few…

Need advice re: one-sided salary transparency convo for coworker who won’t spill the tea herself

I am all for salary transparency with coworkers but am working with one person who digs for info but won’t share herself. (note: earlier this year I facilitated a convo with coworkers which led myself and a few others to ask for a raise— thank you to this thread for helping with this!) My big picture question is: Do you still share when others are not reciprocating in conversations around salary/benefits? Details of situation: Said coworker asked in a small group text thread – directed to me – whether I am getting an inflation raise after already receiving an individual/merit based raise earlier this year. (Note: apparently not everyone who already received a raise will also get an inflation raise; H.R. going on a case by case basis). I am conflicted as to whether I should respond at all bc this person has never shared openly about their own salary.…

Was just let go from my job

Not sure if this fits here but perhaps I could get some advice? And if this doesn’t fit here please let me know! I was recently let go of my job due to not following an ID a police. I completely understand. We got a new policy at work where we had to scan every individuals ID and when I got back to work I was doing my first shift with this new scanner alone. It was also a weekend and I wouldn’t get help until 3pm which is when my shift ended. Safe to say I was a bit overwhelmed and didn’t follow it super well as I was just as confused as everyone else as to what was going on. Fast forward to now when I’m being told I’m let go. I was given a sheet of paper with a list of things on it and as I’m…

just got written up for “not sweeping good enough”

Well comrades, guess who just got written up for the first time, about something that supposedly happened 3 days ago. Which just so happens to coincide with me mentioning the clear violation of labor rights taking my tips would be. I was even told this “sweeping issue” could be escalated to a firable offence. For context of how bs this is, I'm a CSR, I take and cash out orders, so janitorial is considered a minor portion of my actual job.

Just days after the formation of the first Amazon warehouse union, Amazon has banned words like “living wage” “plantation” and “this is dumb” from internal employee communications. Here’s the full list:
