Bait and Switch Hiring
Part rant, part looking for advice. I was recently hired for a remote WFH data entry job. Or at least that's what I thought. I applied through Indeed for data entry with this company. I was interviewed twice for the data entry position and was offered the job, which I accepted. The next day they called and informed me the position had been placed on hold. Annoying, but it happens. The day after that they came back and said nevermind! We'd like to hire you after all. Okay, neato! The verbal agreement was data entry, the contract I signed says data entry, but 3.5 hours into onboarding and I found out it's an outbound call center to try to talk medical providers into joining Medicaid. I'm working with two other people who were also lied to about the position. When we contacted HR they completely blew us off and my…
I “got” covid to get a vacation
I have been severely homesick for years. Out of nowhere my in-laws asked me to come with them on a vacation to my home town. it was two weeks away. So i got tickets and the day before my flight i called off sick with covid. They still begged me to come in the next day!!! I told them my “symptoms” and they said “without a note or test you can't not show up”. Funny enough i did have a note and test!! My in-laws are very prepared people (and did the same tbh). I sent via email it all even though my manager had begged me to come in person. She originally said she would have to “get back to me after coorpate responds). Then they left me alone until i came back. Best vacation.
I come from midclass family that became low midclass as life got more experience. Since childhood I was awre of our bad financial situation at the point of hearing I should study a lot to be someone and help mom (I was 4 y.o). Have always been dedicated to school. My spanish teacher said in front of whole class he wished his son was like me. . Money was short and paying school was priority (public schools here are lame, many private are as well) over social life, reason I was heavily bullied at school for years (still have issues to socialize today). Went to university and for so many nights I was up after 2 a.m doing tasks and studying for exams. At some point I had 12h/day of classes. During my university life I even studied other stuff like Geology, Organic Chemistry, Quantum Chemistry .. After this I…
I need to vent. I’m working for the county and all new employees have to be in a 6 month probation period. I can’t take PTO at all but still accumulate PTO. I have sick time but can’t use it often. I have follow up medical appointments so they have to deal with it. I can’t use VTO because it looks bad. I like the job I do but it gets mentally exhausting. (I work for the public defender) I wish I could take time off at least a day to recharge. I get jealous when I see another employee send their email to everyone in the office that they’ll be out of office. Must be nice. Since I’m new I have to backup my team if they decide to go on vacation. Someone is taking 2-3 weeks in June. These 6 months seem to drag. I get more anxiety…
I'm of a petite figure. My boss (36M) has always been someone with extremely low EQ and is generally an unpleasant person. He approached me today at work to ask me that question and proceed to comment that I have a STICK FIGURE. I find this extremely rude and inappropriate but I didn't dare to react when it happened.
“The customer is always right” While I do think management should care about our customers and clients since they are the ones bringing the money to the company (which is the harsh truth), it baffles me why do we not have this labor law where employees or workers are protected from customers who can be verbally, physically, and financially abusive especially people who worked at retail or customer service. I've seen tons of videos of workers being verbally abusive like cursing and saying rude words to workers to the point it is going overboard. Then you also have customers/clients being financially abusive by saying “Can I speak to your manager?” just to get some free sh*t or high discount even though workers/employees just committed a minimal error. Then the physically abusive ones are the worst. Sure they could be pressed charges but in all honesty does our labor law (depending…
Red Flags in an Interview
Just completed an interview with a company that I was really looking forward to. It started off ok then we started talking about salary compensation. He said they offer an equivalent of 3000 USD a month (when the recruiter had initially told me they offer 4000 USD a month). Then he went on to say people would kill for that kind of salary and that it is very good. Second he badmouthed the previous employee who left this role saying he helped him build his career and then he abandoned them after three years, and he still doesn't know anything. Third he asked me how quickly it would take me to be an expert in the role as he needs someone to learn fast. I said maybe 3-6 months. He said it's a bad answer because it shows I'm over confident and he wanted to hear 2 years or 3…
