Should I let my employer know that I don’t plan on staying with the company and am actively looking for a new job?

Atlantic article about work summed up:

“No, really, trust us!, you LOVE working for someone else and only spending 2 days out of the week (during which you're too exhausted to do anything) with the people you love! Disregard the articles about most common regrets on peoples' death beds being they wished they had worked less, you LOOOOVE your JOOOB! (keep the pocket liners comin')

It is helpful to post which state/country you job is in.

Just a (hopefully helpful) note you should include what country and/or state you are in to get realistic advice. Different states (in the us) and especially different countries have different laws that will be important to your employment questions. If you want the most relevant answers you need to say where you are working.

my boss said that no one can get raises because the cost of supplying face masks ($0.11) to customers is too high

I work at a place where the owner has chosen to make face masks still mandatory despite mandates ending in our area. COVID cases are very high here still so I’m fine about that (despite the ever increasing harassment from customers). However, the boss sent a message to all of the employees saying that no one could get raises because the cost of supplying masks to customers is too high. Nobody asked for or was expecting a raise. And a box of 100 face masks is $11 from Costco. We probably give out 10-20 a day to customers, which is on average a $1-$2 daily expense. There are so many ways this business could cut costs and save money, and saying that the one very small expense that is putting our health and safety at a priority is the reason why we can’t get paid a living wage is some…

It’s not volunteering if I HAVE to do it…

I'm not sure if anyone else has encountered this. I work in corporate healthcare and every year we have to put in goals for the year. These goals are essentially what's used in our yearly review and if/how well we did on our goals, correlates to our annual raise. This year someone up the chain has decided that attending a volunteer event and representing our corporation is a mandatory goal. We get 16 hours of volunteer paid time off. The problem though, is that I work remotely in an entirely different state. So, I will have to figure out a volunteer opportunity and get it approved through corporate just to be eligible for my raise next year. I guess it seems uncharitable that I don't want to have to do this, but I really don't want to have to go interact with a bunch of people during a pandemic just…

Saying the quiet part out loud

A mid-level executive working for an Applebee’s franchisee has been terminated after sending an email to colleagues which suggested that rising gas prices and inflation would allow the franchisee to hire employees at lower wages. https://wgntv.com/news/exec-at-applebees-franchisee-fired-over-leaked-email-suggesting-lower-wages-for-paycheck-to-paycheck-employees/?fbclid=IwAR2vD1QMxss_LqQ2SEiK4FZLu880KGpZuBwYIAyFXByhU8uB16s7iqPluOU

I was replaced while on a business trip

Good day reddit specialists, Apologies in advance for this post. It meanders, waxes, and wanes. I have been following this sub for many moons and I have finally joined your ranks. I am currently in Chile, my favorite place in the world. Company is US based. My boss informed me that he expected me to cut my trip short and return to the US tomorrow. Logistically (PCR test, Rental car, travel, and flights) make it impossible to accomodate this schedule. The fact of the matter is that my company went behind my back in a very not subtle manner and are “restructuring”. I called my boss and blatantly asked what his intentions were as I could see he had no intention of me assuming my duties on return. He stuttered, told me to come back and then ghosted me. He did mention he wanted me in a lower tier position.…

Looking for WFH

As the title states, I am looking for companies that are hiring wfh positions. However, I have done my fair share of being tethered to a phone line taking calls all day. I'm looking for more data entry or chat customer service positions. I don't know where to look, other than Indeed or Glassdoor, and there's not very much that looks promising on either. I also hate the idea of having to set up a LinkedIn. Thank you in advance!!
