i’m a transgender male who has fully transitioned (on hormones 4+ years, all legal paperwork changed, had top surgery to remove breast tissue in october of 2021) & i finally went back to work after a long recovery in january. i work in overnight replenishment, aka i just come & stock stuff while the store is closed. i’ve had a reoccurring post operative complication though that involves a small wound reopening in my chest & it has happened two times since i began working. the first time i didn’t think much of it but i came into work anyway & hit a box against it & bled all over myself & my shirt & then decided to take the next day off because i got really worried. he didn’t believe that i had surgery, though, & was saying all that happened was that i superficially cut my nipple & was…
Well it’s not the wildest story you’ll hear today but it made me think of this sub right away. My coworker (40’s male, 3 small children) who has been with the company for roughly 8 years, was let go last week. They had told him they were eliminating his position and that was essentially it. Note: I live in a “no-cause” state in the US where there doesn’t need to be reason in order to terminate an employee, so they didn’t do anything illegal in any of this, but it was still some shitty behavior being displayed. The next day we had a team meeting where my boss proceeded to explain how we need to bring “more talent” onto the team and he really made it passive aggressive basically stating how the ex-employee was outdated and didn’t pick up new technology as quickly (which I think is BS because the…
So my fiance and I went to Staffinders in February looking for a job. It was supposed to a contract for a sanitation job at Nickles Bakery. The contract was for 4-6 months, $20 an hour, Mon-Fri and we were not able to be put on the production line when needed. Then all of a sudden yesterday they gave a new schedule and we were set to be on production from Saturday until next Thursday. Meaning we wouldn't get our weekend off, they broke contract, and production workers make $15 an hour so that's what we would make this next week. I called Staffinders and I was told that there's nothing he's going to do about it and they completely fucked us over. So you know what? We're not going in. That's not in our contract and I'm not doing it. We have to drive a half hour and our…
Quick reality check: you cannot boycott a business that you never supported in the first place. The only people who can successfully boycott Applebee's are their regular customers, and given that Applebee's targets conservative baby boomer middle manager types it's extremely unlikely that any boycott is going to happen. We can, however, hurt Applebee's by directly attacking their ability to do business. Applebee's depends on a constant stream of low wage employees which must be constantly replenished. They operate on the assumption that everyone applying to work for them is doing so sincerely, and have sized their HR departments accordingly. If that were to change and they were unable to replenish their labor pool the entire system would seize up and break down, at which point we could use their corporate carcass as a warning to others: fuck with us and we will fuck with you back. If you're really…
