Victoria, Australia I've been a kindergarten teacher for many years. This year I decided to go for a position in administration. Even though I wasn't in the classroom my legal responsibilities stay the same and in some cases become more severe. There was an incident one morning where one year olds had somehow gotten a glass jar outside at the childcare I was working at. The glass jar was dropped on the concrete and shattered. Children are highly curious individuals and always investigate new materials right away. Soon as the glass jar hit the ground three children staring picking up the shattered glass pieces and of course, one of them stuck some in their mouth. The teacher called out to another teacher for help because “they have glass in their mouths.” As she had her pointer finger third knuckle deep, bent like a fish hook, in one of their mouths…
My only form of communication is blunt and straightforward. Which doesnt really fit this setting. Can someone help me rewrite this is a professional manner? I'm CCing all of managment, all of HR, and of course all my colleges. Context: I asked for a raise and was denied, instead given the normal 2% raise. I put in my two weeks notice because another company offered me 15% higher pay. The same day my company countered by matching the 15% raise. How would you recommend I say “you misunderstand, for me to stay you have to offer me a higher rate then what I am getting offered. Due to my skillset being is such high demand between this company and another, anything less than 20% raise is not unacceptable, but also an Insult.” Also some where in there id like to bring up how they dont seem to have a plan…
Hiya. I don't really go on Reddit much at all, but I was told to come here for some advice on my situation, maybe some comfort in these trying times. I guess this is more hypothetical; I have a story and a couple of questions if anyone knows about workers' rights and stuff like that. A couple of weeks ago, I had picked up two shifts for a Saturday. I work at a small, local chain in North Carolina, so I had picked up a 7am-11am at one store in the area and a 12pm-6pm. The morning of these shifts, I sleepily tripped out of bed and slammed my foot into my bedpost (ouch). I ended up actually breaking my toe (I know I'm the biggest clutz alive, don't mention it). I showed up for my first shift but was sent home two hours in because I almost threw up/…

I just got a new job through the VA and I was stoked knowing all these great benefits ill have. Well I went to talk to HR about taking paternity leave and they said I wont be eligible for paternity leave for my first child. So I tried going through FMLA again im not eligible. I was told i could take annual leave but because im a new hire ill have maybe 3 to 5 days accrued max if i cancel all my other plans between now and then. I might be able to take unpaid time off but having no one in the household making any money with a newborn is a death sentence here in the expensive bay area. So now im faced with either burn through my tiny bit of savings or let my wife who will have just given birth be home alone with a large…
Was thinking about some of the BS advice people give to try to win the game of work in capitalism. This old chesntut: “DrEsS fOr ThE jOb YoU wAnT, nOt ThE jOb YoU hAvE.” How many of these people run workplaces where employees are made to dress uniformly? Whether that’s an actual uniform, a dress code, or safety requirements? That’s really impossible—and stupid—advice. Maybe I should wear dress shoes to work so I’ll get McNoticed for a promotion. You’re slipping and falling, and you’re gonna get written up for not having worn non-slip shoes.
