Aside from all of the, “Why is our company so great?” stuff, the real questions mysteriously vanished our live Q&A Town Hall, but were in a blog later.

Temp Work and covid leave

Super frustrated. I live and work in a small town(Missouri) for a temp agency that provides contingency workers for a factory. Yesterday I got a call from the factory nurse who said I had to stay home for 5 days because I was in close contact with someone who tested positive for covid. The temp agency advised me that I should apply for unemployment which I think is wrong in Missouri, which requires you to be able and available to work, which I should only miss this week of work. but u know how losing one pay check can affect your life at 14/hr How is a nationwide temp agency getting away with this? shouldn't they HAVE to provide sick pay when you are ordered to stay at home?

Time-off Requests should be called Time-off Notifications

Exactly what I just said. If you think im ASKING for the time off I am entitled to, you're delusional. I will not be there. I have told you that. It is now your problem. No, I will not take one for the team. No, I will not find someone to cover me. You're the manager. Do your job and manage.

work from home and unions

First, I want to say that I'm not against working from home. Have done so for the last 3 years and its truely changed my call center from soul sucking to a inconvenience. That being said, one perspective that I never hear shared is how monitoring programs, key loggers, etc. Really put a damper on any union efforts. So much so that i really didnt think companies would go back to the office. The only example that is close to this I've seen is the recent news that Amazon has remove key words from their internam chat. https://thehill.com/policy/technology/3258978-amazon-eyeing-plan-to-ban-words-such-as-union-restrooms-and-slave-labor-from-internal-chat-app-report/ I dont mind it at my current job as i dont think my job showed any signsof unionizing, they pay decent, and working from home has been nice. Just posting this as a food for thought. Any thoughts or opinions are welcome.

Job Assessments

What is all of your guys' opinions on the assessments/tests that some companies make you do on Indeed? Personally, I haven't seen a single question on those things that didn't feel completely subjective and a waste of time.

Let’s start a Slow work movement until we reach the no work goal!

In many jobs, if you finish your task quickly, you don't gain free time, but only more work. When I think back to my school days, it already started there. If you got a task in class and finished it quickly, you got another task as a “reward” instead of being allowed to go and play. But I don't want to have another task. What motivation is it supposed to be when working fast is rewarded with even more work instead of being able to take the rest of the day off. I have an office job where it has never happened that someone said I could get off work early because I was done with a task. Instead, they looked for a new task right away, even if the purpose of the new task wasn't always clear. Therefore, I call for the Slow Work Movement. Do your work thoroughly,…

How a $1.50 raise in prices actually hurts a gaming company

Not sure if the title is clickbaity or not, but feel like this story belongs here as well. DISCLAIMER: This is not an attack on the game developers, this is in solidarity to support them and hopefully get them the things they genuinely need. Jagex, the game development studio behind popular MMORPGs “Runescape” and “Old School Runescape” (they're relatively separate communities with different development teams) has been getting a slew of negative feedback from its community over recent announcements to increase subscription prices. In USD monthly membership will increase from $11 to $12.49 per month. Now rational people would take the change as no issue because its just a small increase in price and inflation rates the past few years have been staggering. Some of the largest reasons for the outcries are because either Jagex upper management or their owning company the Carlye Group have forced the decision down to…
